Post Thanksgiving

Well Thanksgiving has come and gone.  My brother came by Saturday and grabbed all the food that was left.  Now my fridge is all clean and emptied, ready for my next holiday feast.

Hope everyone's Thanksgiving was all they wished it to be.  I for one had a great time hanging out with my family.

And now I'm off getting ready for Christmas.

Thanksgiving Eve

I've been up since 5 a.m.  Soon as I got up I ran to the store for a few things, then came home and have been cooking ever since.  My two turkeys are marinating in the fridge. As a matter of fact one is going into the oven right after this post. They are so huge they barely fit in the roasting pans.  My two hams are prepped and ready. So is the crab stuffing. (This is one of those times when a double oven is needed).

So far things are moving going smoothly.  The eggs have been boiled and peeled for making deviled eggs. Thanks to my mom she's making the macaroni and my aunt is sending a home-made cake and sweet potatoe pie, yum-yum.  I'm using the giblets from the turkey to make the gravy.  That's something I have always done.  I simmer them in some stock from the turkey then add  flour to thicken along with some seasonings. I usually add the necks as well but the are so big (bigger than the turkeys I've used in the past) Not sure what to do with them so I just wrapped them up and put them in the freezer.  They would we be really good fried if they were chicken necks.  I'm not sure how fried turkey necks would taste. LOL

Anywho, I better get back to work.  Time to peel the sweet potatoes.

It's Almost Thanksgiving!

In three days it will be Thanksgiving.  Are you excited?  I sure am.

Originally it was only going to be my brother, his wife and kids and my parents all at my house.  However the guest list has expanded a little.  I have a couple cousins and their kids coming.  Also my brother's older daughter and son are coming along with their kids.  Should be really fun.  I love being around my family.

My brother brought me two huge turkeys and two spiral hams last week.  I'm sure he will be taking one of those turkeys home Thanksgiving night lol.  My mom called me today and said she will do the macaroni and cheese and some other dish.  I love her mac & cheese.

Other items on the menu include:

crab stuffing
gravy
collard/kale greens
sauerkraut
sweet potatoes
mashed potatoes
potato salad
fresh baked rolls
cranberry sauce
ranch style wingettes
deviled eggs

And for dessert:

sweet potato pie
apple pie
pineapple upside down cake

You may be wondering why three different types of potatoes?  Well a couple family members love mashed potatoes with their turkey and gravy.  My brother and I love potato salad with our greens...a delicious combination.  If I remember right, my grandmother used to make both mashed potatoes and potato salad too.

Tomorrow I will finish tidying up the house and prep some of the dishes that can be made ahead of time.

Autumn Love

This season has been so amazing. The trees with all the beautiful rich colors of golds, reds, oranges and browns.  This is why I love Autumn so much.

Hello September

September's finally here and I for one am excited.  Soon it will be time to pull out the sweaters and boots.  I especially love wearing sweaters and cardigans.  I have loads of them. Not to mention football season has begun. (Go Ravens!)  Oh they played terribly last Thursday but I still love them.  They'll get it together.  No big deal.

For a brief moment we did experience some autumn-like temps. Friday night it was so chilly I pulled out a heavier comforter for my bed.  Slept like a newborn baby. Unfortunately it did not last.  By Saturday night the cool air turned humid and I had to close up all the windows and turn the ac back on.

With the coming of fall I've been thinking of ways I would like to celebrate.  I already have two events going on this month.  Tomorrow is my mom's birthday.  Then 10 days after that will be my brother's birthday.  Next week I will pull out my tote of autumn decorations and turn my little palace into a fall retreat.  I decided to host a small dinner party to celebrate the fall season. That won't be til October.  Plus I will host Thanksgiving this year.  Now my mind is really turning... think I will also have a few friends over to watch one of the Ravens games. I hosted once last year and it was so much fun.  Let's just say I will be a busy little bee planning and entertaining.

I had some other things I wanted to share but it's now 8:00 p.m. and I need to get myself ready for bed.  I'll be back soon with an update of how I am progressing.

Good night all.
